The Bastion 1 and 3 Gallery occupies an area of about 300 square meters to the left of the Maria Theresia Bastion, a part of the Timisoara Citadel that has survived to this day. Rehabilitated, Gallery 1 can host exhibitions, art installations, performances and various events.
Built between the years 1730-1735, originally named Ravelinul Depozitului de Proviant, the Bastion Maria Theresia gained this name around the years 1744-1745, as a tribute to the queen. It was intended for food storage. In 1716, after the conquest of Timisoara by the Habsburgs, the Timisoara Citadel was completely rebuilt in the Vauban style, between 1723-1765, its surface increased 10 times. Three star-shaped belts surrounded the inner space of the fortress, and access was through 3 gates: Vienna, Petrovaradin and Transilvania.
